Dr Carrigan is an early career, postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Psychology
at Macquarie University. She is a cognitive psychologist and has 25+ year of experience
working in medical imaging. Her research capabilities allow her to test key issues experimentally in controlled environments, and her connections in medicine provides avenues for data collection and to disseminate key findings to impact practice. Her research investigates the cognitive processes underlying medical image perception, specifically applied visual search, attentional processes, diagnostic error and the trajectory from competence to expertise. She adopts actively collaborates with international and national researchers (e.g., University of Utah and Vanderbilt University). She has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students in Cognitive Psychology and Perception, as well as supervising and mentoring research students.
