I earned my PhD at Penn State University in 2008 under the mentorship of Cathleen Moore and J. Toby Mordkoff (both now at the University of Iowa). While there, I studied attentional resolution, the preview effect, change detection, and visual search. For my dissertation, I began studying the applied search task of lifeguard surveillance. This remains my primary area of research as a faculty member but I've also studied other applied cognitive domains as well (including threat detection and reply all use in email). We do not have graduate students in my department, but I've supervised undergraduate student projects examining learning, change detection, and numerical cognition.
