Sophie Wuerger is a professor in vision science at the University of Liverpool and is interested in understanding how the brain processes visual information, in particular how the signals from the eye map into high-order colour appearance mechanisms. To gain an understanding of the neural visual mechanisms she uses behavioural methods, EEG and functional brain imaging. Her work has both clinical and technological application, including device-independent display calibration and the development of computational appearance models.
In 2001, she worked at NASA Ames (with Beau Watson) as a Senior National Research Council Fellow (USA). Subsequently, she was a visiting professor at the University of Regensburg (Greenlee Lab) and at the Computer Vision Centre at the University of Barcelona. Since 2014, she is a Honorary Professor at the University of Science & Technology, Liaoning, China.
