Anna Wang Roe is Director of the Interdisciplinary Institute of Neuroscience and Technology at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China. As a Sloan, Packard, SPIE, and AAAS Fellow, she is known for her studies in visual and somatosensory processing in nonhuman primate cerebral cortex and for developing optical imaging, optogenetic, and MRI neurotechnologies. To study cortical columns and their circuitries, she recently developed a laser-fMRI method to map columnar brain connectomes in macaque monkeys. Her vision studies center on (1) columnar circuits in V1, V2, and V4 that underlie visual color and shape perception (2) columnar basis of visual attention, and (3) development of foveal visual cortical circuits in infant monkeys.
