My primary research interest focuses on understanding of how vision is processed in the presence of vision loss due to eye diseases or disorders. Following my PhD training at the University of Houston College of Optometry, I completed a brief but very productive postdoctoral fellowship with Professor Gordon Legge at the University of Minnesota, the leading researcher in the field of low vision research. Subsequently, I began applying vigorous psychophysical techniques to investigate the limiting factors on functional vision in people with eye diseases. My research has received continuous support from NIH since the year 2000. Our work combines our knowledge in low vision rehabilitation, functional brain imaging (fMRI), functional retinal imaging, visual psychophysics, eye movements and neuroscience.
